The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) says it will intensify road safety and traffic enforcement operations, patrols and other policing measures as schools reopen for the third term tomorrow.
In a statement issued today, ZRP said the measures were aimed at enhancing the safety and security of learners travelling to and from schools, particularly those returning to boarding schools after the holiday.
“As schools across the country prepare to open for the third term on 08th September 2026, the Zimbabwe Republic Police urges parents and guardians, school authorities, transport operators, motorists and the public to prioritise the safety and security of learners,” the police said.
The police urged parents, guardians and school authorities to ensure that learners use safe and reliable transport and, where possible, avoid travelling at night.
It also warned transport operators and drivers against overloading vehicles or carrying learners alongside goods and luggage in a manner that could compromise their safety.
“Drivers must also avoid speeding, reckless overtaking, negligent driving and driving under the influence of alcohol or dangerous drugs,” ZRP said.
Motorists were further urged to exercise caution around schools, bus stops, pedestrian crossings and other areas frequently used by learners.
The police also raised concerns over the security of schools and learners, calling on school authorities, parents and guardians to remain vigilant against criminal activities targeting learning institutions.
“Schools are discouraged from keeping large amounts of cash at their premises,” the statement said, while parents and guardians were encouraged to use banks and other approved financial institutions when paying school fees and other school-related charges.
ZRP said its intensified policing measures would cover the entire country as learners travel to and from schools and move within their communities.
The public was urged to report criminal activities, suspicious conduct and traffic violations at the nearest police station, through the National Complaints Desk on (0242) 703631, or via WhatsApp on 0712 800197.
