FC Hunters produced a remarkable comeback at Rufaro Stadium today, overcoming a two-goal deficit to eliminate CAPS United from the Munhumutapa Challenge Cup.
CAPS United looked firmly in control in the first half, with Ishmael Wadi scoring twice to give Makepekepe a 2–0 lead at the break.
Hunters, however, came out strongly in the second half and launched a stunning comeback.
Dzvukamanja pulled one back in the 75th minute before Pfumbidzai added a second from a set piece in stoppage time to bring the match level at 2–2.
Neither side could find a winner in regulation time, sending the quarter-final to a penalty shootout.
FC Hunters kept their composure from the spot, with goalkeeper Brendon Mukuli emerging as the hero after making three saves as Hunters won 3–1 on penalties to book their place in the semi-finals.
The result marks another impressive chapter in Hunters’ run in the inaugural Munhumutapa Cup, while CAPS United’s hopes of lifting the trophy have come to an end.
Hunters will now face the winner of the quarter-final between Blanket Mine and FC Platinum in the semi-finals.
