President Emmerson Mnangagwa officially commissioned and opened the multi-million Trabablas interchange to traffic in Harare yesterday.

This infrastructure development is another key project by the Zimbabwean government under the Second Republic, aimed at enhancing transportation networks and fostering economic growth.

President Mnangagwa highlighted this key milestone in Zimbabwe’s transformation of transport-related infrastructure as a key enabler for economic growth and development, stating this in his speech.

“Transport is central to mobility and all human activity, be it social or economic.

“The Second Republic consciously took the necessary decision to ring-fence infrastructure spending on priority projects that are enablers in accelerating economic development,” he said.

He further highlighted that population growth and increased urbanization are leading to a rapid increase in the number of vehicles in the country.

“The improved standard of living brought upon by the Second Republic’s progressive policies, has also meant that more and more families are able to purchase vehicles.

“As such, our roads are facing increasing pressure leading to frustrating delays and lost productivity,” said President Mnangagwa.

Once known as Mbudzi roundabout, the interchange has been renamed Trabablas Interchange, the name which was used by President Mnangagwa during the liberation struggle.

The Minister of Transport and Infrastructural Development, Honourable F. T. Mhona, reiterated the Ministry’s commitment to the continuous development of infrastructure, aimed at attaining President Mnangagwa’s vision of an upper-middle-income society by 2030.

“We are one step closer to achieving your vision of an empowered upper-middle income society in Zimbabwe by 2030.

“We shall strive to ensure that our roads, railroads, inland waterways, airports, and other critical infrastructure meet world class standards to facilitate national development,” said Hon. Mhona.

Hon Mhona further commended on the Ministry, stakeholders, and contractors for delivering an exceptional quality product within a short period of time.

“This was once a symbol of traffic jam and gridlocks in Harare, and the Trabablas interchange has met the highest standards of quality and safety envisioned in this transformative project.

“I would like to express my sincere gratitude to various Ministries, departments and agencies of government which assisted in making sure we deliver this project,” he said.

Cde Oppah Muchinguri Kashiri, the Minister of Defence and National Security, gave the closing remarks acknowledging the cooperation and dedication shown in making this vision a reality.

Several ministers and government officials were in attendance.

Zimbabwean infrastructure is being admired by many in the SADC region.
