Rufaro Stadium is set to host the highly anticipated Harare derby tomorrow, where giants Dynamos and CAPS United will clash in a Castle Lager Premiership match, with Dynamos looking to revive their league championship fight and CAPS United seeking to turn around their fortunes and steer clear of relegation threats.
The first-round encounter between Dynamos and CAPS United ended in a 1-1 draw, with Emmanuel Jalai giving Dynamos an early lead from the penalty spot, only for Kundai Benyu to equalize for Caps United in the 63rd minute, resulting in both teams sharing the points at Rufaro Stadium.
The highly anticipated Harare Derby takes place at a critical juncture, with both teams fighting for survival in the Premier Soccer League; Dynamos is currently in 16th position, while CAPS United is in 13th, with only 3 points separating them.
Tomorrow’s match between Dynamos and CAPS United at Rufaro is not only a fierce Harare derby but also a Zambian showdown, as both teams feature prominent Zambian Coaches, adding an exciting international dimension to the clash.
Ian Bakala is the head coach at CAPS United, while Pastor Kelvin Kaindu is at the helm of Dynamos FC.
Dynamos remains undefeated under the guidance of Pastor Kelvin ‘KK’ Kaindu, who took over from suspended coach Saul Chaminuka, with the team securing four consecutive victories that restored confidence among supporters and players alike.
Kaindu’s impressive start earned him the August Coach of the Month recognition, and he is now looking to lead Dynamos to victory against CAPS United in the highly anticipated Harare derby.

Caps United’s recent form has taken a hit, with the team suffering three defeats in their last five outings.
Renowned journalist Robson Sharuko, addressing the crowd at the CAPS United sponsorship launch, described the upcoming Harare derby as a “war of attrition,” predicting a tight and fiercely contested match.
“I’m telling you, this derby is going to be a tight contest, with both Dynamos and CAPS United playing for survival, it promises to be an electrifying encounter.
“Given the stakes, I’m not expecting an entertaining match in terms of display and ball passing, both teams will be hell-bent on not losing, so it will be a very cagey affair,” added Robson Sharuko.
He said, “I have seen a lot of people predicting CAPS United to win 2-0, but let me remind you all, this is the Harare derby we’re talking about, and in this fixture, form goes out the window”, adding that he will give host Owen Madondo affectionately known as DJ Ollah United States one hundred dollars if Caps United win against Dembare.
Dynamos head coach, Pastor Kelvin Kaindu, has emphasized the importance of the upcoming Harare derby against CAPS United, stating that the game is crucial for the team’s survival prospects in the league.
“The match comes at a very difficult time where both teams are on unfamiliar positions, both teams trying to avoid relegation, but this is the game that comes with a lot of explosives regardless of the position you are in.
“We have almost a full squad ahead of this encounter and everybody is ready for selection. It gives us a bit of advantage as we were not doing well when the league started. We only managed to change the league position after the last game.
“A victory against Caps will push us up, and there are still a few games remaining. Caps United they are strong on their day and they have a passionate that is always behind them, and we anticipate that people will come out in numbers and hope that it will be a game that will bring entertainment,” said Kaindu.
He added that pressure will always be there, and the best team will carry the day, but his desire is to win the game and move out of relegation.
Caps United Captain Phineas Bamusi said morale is high in the camp and team’s intense preparation will bring intense heat.
“Caps United is raring to go as they prepare to face off Dynamos in their final chapter of 2025 Harare Derby this Sunday. Our boys have been rejuvenating in the Eastern Highlands, bonding and focusing on securing positive results in the remaining game,” said Bamusi.
Dynamos’ fan favorite, Denver ‘Mundikumbuke’ Mukamba, has expressed his readiness for the big derby, stating that he has a lot to prove against CAPS United.
CAPS United has secured a significant $4.3 million sponsorship deal with a prominent company Green Dollar, injecting much-needed financial boost into the team ahead of their crucial Harare derby clash against Dynamos.
CAPS United owner, Farai Jere, announced that the team will be calling Gwanzura Stadium home in the future.
For the highly anticipated Harare derby ticket prices for the rest of the ground will be increased to $5 from the normal $3, in a bid to capitalize on the massive demand and high stakes surrounding the match.
