President of Zimbabwe and First Secretary of ZANU PF, Cde Emmerson Mnangagwa, has urged members of the party’s Central Committee to adopt a result-oriented approach and ensure that the resolutions of the 23rd National People’s Conference translate into tangible outcomes for Zimbabweans.
Addressing the 133rd Ordinary Session of the ZANU PF Central Committee in Harare today, President Mnangagwa said party members must guide delegates towards achieving the objectives of the Conference and move away from resolutions that are not implemented.
“As we attend to the Conference Agenda, I urge all members to be result-oriented, and help guide the delegates towards our set objectives,” President Mnangagwa said.
He said the National People’s Conference, which will be held in Chinhoyi, Mashonaland West Province, under the theme “From Resolutions to Results: Consolidating Economic Development and Deepening Economic Empowerment Towards Vision 2030,” should mark a shift towards implementation and measurable results.
“The theme is instructive and affirms that the era of ‘Resolutions without implementation’ has ended,” he said.
President Mnangagwa said the Conference must strengthen the relationship between ZANU PF and the people through service, while reviewing the party’s activities since its previous gathering and charting a course towards increased productivity, industrialisation, modernisation and economic prosperity.
He called on members to conduct deliberations in a manner that demonstrates political maturity and democracy, while ensuring that Conference resolutions are forward-looking and capable of advancing the country towards Vision 2030.
The President also warned against factionalism and conduct that could undermine the Conference agenda.
“Preferences of cliques and narrow inclinations, among other retrogressive acts, have no place in our Party. Hatidi mweya waRegioni muMusangano wedu,” he said.
He said party members had a responsibility to defend and advance ZANU PF’s core values, including unity, peace, patriotism, hard work, solidarity and national development.
President Mnangagwa also highlighted several community projects undertaken ahead of the Conference, including the upgrading of a water purification plant and drilling of boreholes at Chinhoyi University of Technology, new water connections benefiting more than 3 000 households, and the refurbishment of student accommodation and staff houses.
Chinhoyi Hospital is also expected to unveil a new solar power plant and medical oxygen facility constructed with support from international partners.
President Mnangagwa subsequently declared the 133rd Ordinary Session of the Central Committee officially open and wished delegates safe travel to Chinhoyi for the main Conference proceedings.
