MACHEKE – A major boost for leisure, commerce and rural development is on the cards as Lennon Village, a newly built entertainment and business hub situated about 108 kilometres from Harare along the busy Harare–Mutare Road, is set for its official opening on Sunday, 29 March 2026.

The state-of-the-art complex is expected to transform the social and economic landscape of Macheke and surrounding areas by offering a wide range of services under one roof.

Facilities at the village include a fully stocked grocery shop, a butchery, a modern restaurant, sports bar, accommodation units, a Service station, and a children’s play centre, making it a convenient stopover for travellers and a recreational hub for locals.

Organisers have lined up a high-profile entertainment programme for the launch, with popular local artistes set to take to the stage.

These include Sulumani Chimbetu, Killer T, Freeman and Mark Ngwazi, in what is expected to be a vibrant and well-attended event.

The project is spearheaded by transport mogul Dr L. Mukumba, the founder of Inter Africa Transport, which operates a fleet of buses across the country.

His diversification into hospitality and retail marks a significant investment in rural infrastructure development.

Speaking to Vhayeya.com ahead of the official opening, Dr Mukumba said the initiative is anchored on inclusive growth and community empowerment.

“We envisioned Lennon Village as a centre that brings services closer to the people while also creating a space for relaxation and business. This is about building communities and improving livelihoods,” he said.

He noted that the strategic location along a major highway positions the village to tap into both local and transit traffic, enhancing its viability and impact.

“This corridor carries thousands of travellers daily. By establishing a facility of this nature, we are not only servicing that traffic but also stimulating local economic activity through trade and employment.”

Dr Mukumba said the development feeds into the national economic blueprint.

“Our vision is aligned with Zimbabwe’s Vision 2030 of becoming an upper middle-income economy. Projects like this ensure that development is not confined to big cities, but reaches every community, leaving no one and no place behind.”

The businessman added that the village has already created employment opportunities for locals, with more expected as operations expand.

“We have prioritised employing people from the surrounding communities and working with local suppliers. This ensures that the benefits of this investment are directly felt by the people here,” he added.

Residents and stakeholders in Macheke have welcomed the development, expressing optimism that Lennon Village will not only enhance convenience but also stimulate tourism, small business growth and overall economic activity in the area.

The official opening is expected to attract dignitaries, business leaders and members of the public, marking a significant milestone in the area’s transformation into a vibrant commercial and social hub.
