Mudzi North Member of Parliament Honourable Benjamin Musweweshiri has emphasized the need for unity and development, vowing to work for the people who elected him.

Honourable Benjamin Musweweshiri spoke during the victory celebrations rally held on Saturday at Kotwa High School, Ward 10, in Mudzi which was meant to thank the Ward and Constituency for voting resoundingly during the August 2023 elections.

Hon Musweweshiri expressed his gratitude to the voters for placing their trust in him and electing him and Ward 10 Councillor Cde Caroline Chijaka to represent them.

“I want to thank the voters of Ward 10 for placing their trust in me and electing me to represent them. I am also grateful to you for voting for the Councillor for Ward 10, Cde Caroline Chijaka,” said Hon Musweweshiri.

He went on to say that he is now duty-bound to serve the constituency and deliver on his promises.

“It is now my turn to serve the constituency to the best of my ability and deliver on my promises. Now it is time for development, and we can achieve that through working together,” he added.

Honourable Musweweshiri stated that addressing the water challenges in his constituency was a priority, as the area was known for its low rainfall and the water table was often low.

“I am going to work with the councilors to make sure every ward in Mudzi North has access to water by drilling boreholes, as this area has long faced challenges with water supply,” said Hon. Musweweshiri, adding that on the issue of food insecurity he is going to engage with other stakeholders in government and make sure that no one is going to starve.

Speaking to vhayeya.com, Ward 10 and host Councillor, Cde Caroline Chijaka expressed her gratitude to the voters of Ward 10, thanking them for choosing her and the Zanu-PF party.

“I would like to express my gratitude to the voters of Ward 10 for placing their faith in me and the Zanu-PF party,” said Cde Caroline Chijaka, adding that as an urban councillor, she is going to prioritise everyone in job creation initiatives.

She highlighted that six boreholes have already been drilled in the villages under the Presidential Scheme, with the Red Cross set to install an additional three solar-powered boreholes to address the water challenges in Mudzi.

Mudzi Rural District Council Chairperson, Cde Arnold Katsande, who was also present stated that the celebrations were important for elected officials to express their gratitude to the voters and to connect with them, in order to understand their needs.

“These celebrations are important because we are accountable to the people who elected us. We need to come back and engage with the community and hear their concerns,” he said, adding that on issue of development an audit was conducted by RDC which will allow revenue collection to improve road infrastructure in urban area and Makaha road.

In response to the water crisis, the Council Chairperson said that the completion of the Chipara dam project was crucial for serving areas such as Suswe, Makaha, Kotwa, and Nyamapanda dam.

“The water crisis is a key issue for the community. The completion of the Chipara dam, which will serve areas like Suswe, Makaha, and Kotwa, is crucial to addressing the water challenges,” said Cde Katsande.

Speaking at the sidelines of the event, Honourable K. Kaitano, the Member of Parliament for Mudzi West, noted that the high turnout of people at the event was a testament to the strength of the party in the area, and that the party had demonstrated unity and maturity.

He added that the party believes in taking action and delivering on its promises.

DCC Chairman for Mudzi District, Cde Mudyiwa Mashonganyika, stressed that it was time to move beyond campaign rhetoric and focus on delivering development for the people.
