The Minister of Transport and Infrastructural Development Hon Felix Tapiwa Mhona and the Mashonaland East Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution Hon Senator Apollonia Munzverengwi officially opened part of the Domboshava road to traffic today, sparking joy to residents and road users.

Honourable Mhona apologized to the residents for the project’s delay due to economic sanctions imposed on Zimbabwe.

“As you know the country is under economic sanctions, but through our able leader His Excellency President Mnangagwa, he said we should manage within our means and use our resources to be able to construct the roads.

“However the Treasury is constrained because it is used to fund different projects in the country hence we might experience a delay in finishing on time,” said Hon Mhona.

He highlighted the impossibility of having detour roads due to the close proximity of residential areas to roads.

“It is my sincere plea that when we close roads for construction please bear with us to allow the contractors to do their work without being disrupted.”

“We are going to extend the road to the Showground and it is going to connect with Bindura road which is also currently under construction,” he said.

Minister Mhona mentioned that the President had instructed the continuation of the Emergency Road Rehabilitation Programme (ERRP).

The program had ceased operations last February, but its return would be seen soon through the implementation of Statutory Instruments.

“Our listening President said the Emergency Road Rehabilitation Programme (ERRP) should continue, the program seized to operate last year in February but through the Statutory Instruments to be implemented soon we are going to see it’s return,” he said.

The Minister of State and Devolution Affairs for Mashonaland East Hon A. Munzverengwi emphasized the importance of the Harare-Domboshava road for local people and its role in facilitating produce transportation.

“We are an agricultural based province, our communities in this area they survive on agriculture especially horticulture and this is the road they use everyday in transporting their produce to Harare,” she said.

Honourable Munzverengwi urged Minister Mhona to express gratitude to His Excellency President Dr. E. D. Mnangagwa for prioritizing national development.

“Honourable Mhona, please convey our gratitude to the President for the improved roads enabling easy transportation of our produce to the markets.

“Again Domboshava is now housing almost 150 000 households so you can tell the volume of traffic along this highway and we are grateful.

“We are happy with the completion of the 1.8km peg, showing the government’s commitment to assisting its people in achieving an upper middle-class economy by 2030,” said Honourable Munzverengwi.

The Ministry of Transport and Infrastructural Development is spearheading road infrastructure development, including the imminent completion of the Mbudzi Interchange on July 31st.

Honourable Beatrice Nyamupinga, the Member of Parliament for Goromonzi West, was also present.
