Former students of Mtekedza Secondary School’s Class of 1998 have donated sports kits and uniforms to the school in Chikomba East Constituency in a move aimed at supporting sporting activities and improving learning conditions.
The donation, which included soccer, netball and volleyball kits, was handed over recently at the school during a ceremony attended by school authorities, community leaders and School Development Committee (SDC) members.
The consignment was received on behalf of the community by Chief Mtekedza’s representative Mr Dzikamai Chisvo, school head Mr Chimwe and community leader Mr Ronald Mungoni.
Speaking during the handover ceremony, Mr Chimwe expressed gratitude to the former students for giving back to their former school.
Mr Chisvo also commended the alumni for the gesture, saying the donation would go a long way in supporting learners and sporting development at the school.
“We really appreciate and are thankful as a community and traditional leadership to our former students for remembering their school and community,” he said.
The alumni behind the initiative include Brighton Choruwa, Erica Ndiraire, Jane Chikumene, Sly Dube, Tafadzwa Gudo, Rodrick Mureverwi and Lilian Mudoti.
The former students urged other alumni to support their communities through donations of resources, skills and time, saying collective efforts can help improve education and empower young people.
The event was attended by school staff, SDC members and representatives from the local traditional leadership.
