Chikomba East teams in men’s and women’s soccer, netball, and five athletes went home smiling after Hon. Advocate Felix Tapiwa Mhona (MP) blessed them with over US$4,000 to share among themselves as a gesture of appreciation as they left for home today following their outstanding victory.
The team won gold in netball and women’s soccer, while the men’s soccer team qualified for the finals.
Their match against ZINARA could not be played due to bad light.
Hon. Mhona’s Chikomba East coordinator, Cde Lovemore Masunungure, expressed gratitude to Hon. Mhona and heaped praise on the team.
“Firstly, I want to thank Hon. Mhona for making sure every participant gets home with something. It is now his tradition. He does it naturally, sometimes with pain because, indeed, resources are scarce by their nature. But today again he delivered joy to the team, which has made him proud,” said Masunungure.
“The team itself was fantastic. In athletics, Peter Tauzeni won gold and Felon Pasipamire took silver, while the other athletes got confused by the race route but still performed well.
“The netball team was impressive and defeated Hon. Joshua Sacco’s Chimanimani East 35-17 to take gold. The women’s soccer team beat the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructural Development’s combined teams from Mashonaland East and West after hammering them 4-0. The men’s team won 4-2 on penalties in the semi-finals against a defiant Airports Company of Zimbabwe, but could not play their final match against ZINARA due to bad light,” he added.
After everything was said and done, it was Chikomba East that went home with their heads held high after being named the overall winning team at the 2026 Ministry of Transport and Infrastructural Development Intra-Ministry Sports Jamboree.
Permanent Secretary for the Ministry, Eng. Joy P. Makumbe, hailed the participants and promised more support in future for the competition that promotes wellness and team building in the ministry and its parastatals.
