Fatal Accident Claims 7 Lives on Harare-Nyamapanda Highway

The Zimbabwe Republic Police has confirmed a fatal road accident which occurred at the 120km peg along Harare – Nyamapanda Highway killing 7 people and injuring 5 others.

Police Spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the accident in Press Statement.

“The Zimbabwe Republic Police confirms a fatal road accident traffic accident which occurred at the 120km peg along Harare – Nyamapanda Road on 11th June 2024 at around 1625hrs.

“Seven people were killed whilst 5 others were injured when a right front tyre of a Toyota Quantum vehicle burst resulting in the vehicle veering off the road and hitting a tree,” said Commissioner Nyathi.

The Toyota Quantum was traveling towards Harare.

Commissioner Nyathi announced the victims in the Press Statement.

“Five of the victims were identified by their next of kin as listed:

“Michael Mugandani (36) a male adult, Innocent Nyamukondiwa (37) a male adult, Edith Musorowembudzi (36) a female adult, Dumisani Mutsawa (33) a male adult and Mabhebhe Chingamuka (6) a female juvenile,” announced Commissioner Nyathi.

He added that the remaining two victims are yet to be identified by their next of kin.

The injured victims are admitted at Murehwa District Hospital whilst the bodies of the victims were taken to Mutoko Hospital mortuary for postmortem.

The accident occurred barely a week after the Tenda-Phil and Pats accident which claimed four lives at the spot.

The Zimbabwe Republic Police reiterates that motorists should observe stipulated speed limits and abide by the road rules and regulations in order to save human lives.
