The Minister of Transport and Infrastructural Development, Hon. F.T. Mhona, officially led the groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of the Mabvuku Traffic Interchange at the Mabvuku Turnoff on Monday.

The Mabvuku Traffic Interchange is a major infrastructure project currently under construction along the Harare-Mutare Road.

Minister Mhona highlighted that the area has witnessed numerous accidents and that the interchange is aimed at alleviating this problem and saving lives.

“We have witnessed many accidents at this spot, and we hope this interchange will ease congestion and save lives,” he said.

The project aims to ease congestion, improve road safety, and support economic growth in the capital and beyond.

Minister Mhona also mentioned that road infrastructure development would improve movement along the Beira Corridor, highlighting that detours would be open to traffic from September 9 until July 2026, when the project is expected to be completed.

“This project will also improve movement along the Beira corridor, aligning ourselves within the region,” he said.

“The idea behind this interchange is to separate traffic; those heading to Masvingo, Mash East, and Mash Central will be separated,” added Hon Mhona.

The construction works will also involve rehabilitating the Jagers area and improving Churchill and Legacy Way, among other projects, to ease traffic movement in greater Harare.

The Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Honourable Charles Tawengwa, represented by his Permanent Secretary, Mr. Chirinda, praised the Second Republic for its road infrastructural development, which benefits not only Harare but the entire country.

“It is evident that the President’s vision of leaving no one behind is being implemented, and we appreciate the work being carried out nationwide,” he said.

Meanwhile, Transport and Infrastructural Development Deputy Minister Hon. J.K. Sacco toured and officially opened the completed 3.5 km section of the Harare-Mazowe Road dualization project under the Harare-Kanyemba Road project yesterday.

The road will be dualized from Nemakonde Way to Mvurwi turnoff.

These projects, along with others like the Christmas Pass Bypass in Mutare, reflect the government’s commitment to delivering modern and resilient transport infrastructure solutions.
