President H.E Cde Dr Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa has called for legal fees to be affordable to ensure access to this critical service to all members of the society as he commissioned the Midlands State University’s E.D Mnangagwa Law School in Kwekwe yesterday.

“I call on legal practitioners and relevant authorities to ensure that the cost of legal services is reasonable and within reach of ordinary citizens, fostering a justice system that serves everyone. Furthermore, I expect graduates in the legal field to dedicate their skills and expertise to serving our nation, contributing to the development and upliftment of Zimbabwe,” said President Mnangagwa.

President Mnangagwa also hailed the institution on its plans to create a legal clinic which will allow the community to get legal service.

“The University must establish a vibrant legal clinic where community members can access essential legal services, bridging the gap between academic learning and practical community support, thereby empowering our citizens with the knowledge and protection of their rights,” he said.

Meanwhile the commissioning program coincided with the 26th graduation ceremony that was held in Kwekwe for the first time away from the main campus in Gweru.

The graduation saw Deputy Chief Secretary in the Office of The President and Cabinet, Dr Willard Manungo graduating with a Doctorate Degree in Business Leadership as well as Minister of Transport and Infrastructural Development Hon Felix Tapiwa Mhona adding another legal feather to his qualifications when he graduated with a merit in the Master of Laws Degree in Constitutional and Human Rights Law.

The Minister who is now a practicing lawyer and a holder of an MBA from Nottingham University remained modest when asked by thevhayeya.com on how he feel with the acquisition of this latest academic qualification.

” I want to say work and appointments like that of being a minister will come later but as a person you need to develop yourself.  Yes, work will come but learning also helps us to be able to fulfill the expectations of the people we serve, learning gives us discipline and as a minister to deliver the mandate.

As a class we we are now relatives and there were no issues of our positions, but we were the same as a family and a group helping each other in our class work. We now wish to see some amongst this group progressing to Doctorates and PhDs going forward,” said an ecstatic Hon Mhona.

Meanwhile some of his classmates’ array of legal minds who include Deputy National Prosecution Authority regional Director Madam Rosa, Veteran legal practitioners Gift Nyandoro and Gweru based Magistrate Ernest Muzembe among others hailed Hon Mhona for his humility during their course lectures.

“We did not even feel he was a Cabinet minister, he let us feel free and naturally he is a good man and his presence was a source of joy and institution, it made us realize that it is possible to serve at high levels of authority and yet remain humble,”  said Mr Muzembe who spoke on behalf of the graduating class.

The Hon Minister Mhona was accompanied by his wife Sinodia Mhona and his Personal Assistant Cde Kudzai Majoni Choto, both Degree holders and they both hailed the Minister for acquiring knowledge and adding degrees to his name.

“It is so much inspiring to us as a family to see him acquiring more and more educational and legal qualifications and is a source of inspiration to the kids, I say congratulations Nyakudirwa,” said Mrs. Mhona.

Mr. Choto had to quote from the revered African icon the late Nelson Mandela which says, “Education is the most powerful weapon you can use to change the world”.

He went on to say,” You know this is quite inspiring to us all as a team in his office and you know with education you will never go wrong, borrowing from the late Nelson Mandela”.

Several Cabinet ministers attended the event including Hon Fredrick Shava, Hon July Moyo and Hon Ziyambi Ziyambi amongst other senior government officials.
