Late businessman and philanthropist Wicknell Chivayo has been granted Provincial Hero status by President Emmerson Mnangagwa in recognition of his contribution to Zimbabwean society.
The conferment was announced on Friday by Minister of Youth Empowerment, Development and Vocational Training, Hon Tino Machakaire, at Chivayo’s family home in Gletwin, Harare.
Hon Machakaire said Chivayo had contributed to various initiatives across the country, leading to the decision to confer the honour.
“Today, our father, His Excellency President Mnangagwa, has granted Wicknell Chivayo Provincial Hero status,” Hon Machakaire said.
Chivayo died on Wednesday, September 30, 2026, when a helicopter he was travelling in crashed in the Marondera area.
His wife, Lucy Muteke, and three other occupants also died in the accident.
