Deputy Minister of Transport and Infrastructural Development Hon J.K Sacco accompanied Zimbabwe National Defence University students on their visit to the Mbudzi Interchange yesterday, giving them the opportunity to assess and appreciate the progress made on the construction project.

Brigadier G. S Musadyanga the team leader of class 12 of 2023 of the ZNDU is excited about the project and noted that upon completion it will ease congestion in the city.

“What also struck our mind is that this whole project will decongest and allow free flow of volumes of traffic into and out of Harare which has been a major problem here about congestion inwards and outwards,” he said.

Brigadier Musadyanga highlighted that this tour was beneficial to their sudents studies as they mainly major on national security challenges.

“This tour will benefit them to a larger extent because it is part and parcel of their studies. They also look at national security challenges and congestion is one of the key issues that they have identified,” he added.

Col L Munzararikwa acknowledged and applauded the government’s dedication to development during an interview, expressing his view that the government’s initiatives and projects to promote development deserved appreciation and recognition.

“Our impression is that the government has made tremendous progress, and you know in terms of national security, road infrastructure development is part of the pillars and enablers of the National Development Strategy 1. It is there to facilitate social economy connectivity for the country and the Mbudzi Interchange is one such good example that our government is moving in the right way.

“We thank the government particularly the President, Commander in Chief of the Defense Forces His Excellency President Dr E D Mnangagwa who always articulates that ‘nyika inovakwa nevene vayo’ and this means none but ourselves and this is an example of that,” he said.

The Deputy Minister of Transport and Infrastructural Development Hon J.K Sacco said as a ministry they are happy about the progress so far and highlighted that contractors are now more focused on the earthworks.

“We are happy about the progress made so far, the project is now 63% complete with most of the bridges done and now concentrating on the earth works.

“Today we had a visit from the ZNDU who came to get an appreciation on what the government of Zimbabwe is doing and as you can see here the contractors are working 24/7 to make sure the work is done by end of July,” said Hon Sacco.

He stated that the Mbudzi Interchange is a significant project under the leadership of His Excellency President Mnangagwa.

He mentioned that the interchange consists of up to 15 bridges designed to effectively manage traffic.

“The Mbudzi Interchange is a flagship project that is done under the new dispensation led by His Excellency President Mnangagwa and the Interchange which has upto 15 bridges that will manage to aggregate traffic,” he said.

The Mbudzi Interchange is expected to be finished by end of July this year.
