“Scottland Fc prepare to meet Angola’s Giant in CAF Preliminary Round”
By Milton Marima
Zimbabwean Premier Soccer League champions Scottland FC are preparing for a major continental test against Angolan giants Petro de Luanda in the CAF Champions League second preliminary round.
The encounter presents Scottland with an opportunity to measure themselves against experienced opposition as they seek to make a strong impression on the African stage and advance further in the competition.
Petro de Luanda are among Angola’s established football clubs, making the tie a demanding assignment for the Zimbabwean champions. Scottland will need discipline, concentration and clinical finishing to compete against their opponents over the two legs.
The match is scheduled for Sunday, 18 October 2026, at the National Sports Stadium in Harare, with South African referee Abongile Tom appointed to officiate the first leg. The return leg is scheduled for 24 October in Angola.
Scottland will be under the guidance of coach Norman Mapeza, who has previous experience of taking FC Platinum to the CAF Champions League group stages in 2019. The team also has experienced players such as Khama Billiat and Knowledge Musona, whose contribution could prove important in the continental campaign.
With a place in the group stage at stake, the Zimbabwean champions will be hoping to use home advantage to secure a positive first-leg result before travelling to Angola for the decisive return fixture.
For Scottland, the tie is more than just another match; it is an opportunity to raise Zimbabwean football’s profile and demonstrate that the country’s champions can compete against established African clubs.
