The Zanu PF Women’s League has called for an accelerated fight against drugs and substance abuse, saying the fight against the scourge must be heightened and those involved must be arrested nomatter their standing in society.
Speaking during a Mashonaland East Zanu Pf Provincial Interdistrict in Murewa on Thursday the party’s Secretary for Women’s affairs Cde Mabel Chinomona said as women in the party they want to see a strong commitment by the party at 23rd Annual People’s National Conference in Chinhoyi to fight drug and substance abuse.
“We have agreed as women to say drug peddlers must be arrested no matter how big one is in society. We want to take this resolution as the the Women’s League to our President HE Cde Dr ED Mnangagwa and this is our position as women that those selling drugs must be arrested no matter how big or influential they are in the country,” said Senator Chinomona.
The Zanu Pf Mashonaland East Women’s League Chairwoman Hon Sen Appollonia Munzverengwi also weighed in saying the drug menace has the potential to derail socio-economic development.
“Drugs are killing our children. They are destroying whatever economic gains the country is achieving, and yes, as Mashonaland East women, we are saying no to drugs. We also are calling for women to bear more and more children so as to boost our population as labor is needed to drive this economy towards vision 2030 .
“If you look around how many women here are pregnant, this must be corrected, women must bear children,” said Senator Munzverengwi.
Meanwhile, the women as party of their resolutions, also called upon the government to continue in it’s infrastructural development drive, protect women against land seizures and improve access to quality health services amongst other issues.
The event was attended by women from the province’s nine administration districts and was meant to come up with the provincial resolutions for women ahead of the national conference in October in Chinhoyi.
