A 27-year-old Ruwa-based mushikashika driver, Luckman Kamangile, has been arrested and charged with murder after a passenger, Amos Karumba, 40, died following a violent dispute over ZiG20 change in Harare last Friday.

According to police reports, Karumba had boarded Kamangile’s Honda Fit at George Shopping Centre, bound for Walker Mutamba Ruwa

Upon arrival, Karumba demanded his change, but Kamangile refused to hand over the money, sparking a heated argument that escalated into a fight.

During the confrontation, Kamangile allegedly assaulted Karumba, who was left injured at the scene.

Karumba was treated at a local clinic but succumbed to his injuries the following day.

Harare’s deputy provincial police spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Faith Mapisa, confirmed the arrest, stating that Karumba’s death was a direct result of the altercation over the change.

“The accused allegedly assaulted the victim, leading to his death.

“The body was taken to Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals for a post-mortem examination,” Mapisa said.

The incident has sparked concerns over the rising cases of violence in public transport, with authorities urging both drivers and passengers to resolve fare disputes peacefully.

“Assault is a criminal offence, and we will not hesitate to take action against anyone who engages in such behavior,” Mapisa warned.

Amos Karumba was buried yesterday meanwhile Kamangile is currently in police custody, facing murder charges.
