Fugitive murderer Peter Dube has been sentenced to two life‑imprisonment terms and an additional 20 years in prison by the Bulawayo High Court.
The National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ) announced the judgments in a press release this evening.
“Peter Dube who was recently convicted on two counts of murder and two counts of attempted murder by the Bulawayo High Court has been sentenced on 26 November 2025 to two life imprisonment terms plus an additional 20 years,” announced NPAZ.
The NPAZ clarified that for counts 1 and 2 – the murder charges – Dube received life imprisonment on each, while on counts 3 and 4 – attempted murder – he was sentenced to 10 years’ imprisonment on each count.
The offences occurred on the 22nd of April 2021 in Gweru when the accused fatally shot Shelton Chiduku and Gamuchirai Madungwe.
Furthermore, on the same day he attempted to kill Nyasha Nharingo and Nyaradzo Nharingo following domestic dispute.
In announcing the judgment, the NPAZ also highlighted the circumstances of the offences which led to the conviction and sentencing of the accused.
“Evidence presented in court showed that after an altercation at his apartment, Dube armed himself with a firearm, shot the two deceased victims who were seated in a vehicle and later shot the two surviving victims inside the apartment.
“Although he denied the charges claiming, claiming mental instability at the time, the court found him fully responsible for the brutal attacks,” said NPAZ.
Dube fled the country shortly after the attack, disguising himself as a Mozambican national and later Ireland in an attempt to evade arrest.
He was eventually arrested, leading to his extradition to Zimbabwe last year.
Dube is lucky to escape the hangman’s noose, as Zimbabwe recently abolished the death penalty.
