The Zimbabwe Republic Police has expressed concern over the rising number of murder cases at beer outlets across the country.

In a press statement, the Zimbabwe Republic Police highlighted that most murders at beer outlets are triggered by petty issues, often escalating into violence.

“The Zimbabwe Republic Police is concerned with murder cases occurring across the country, particularly at beer drinking sites where petty disputes are escalating into fatal confrontations,” said the Police.

The Zimbabwe Republic Police cited four separate murder cases that occurred within a space of seven days, highlighting the alarming frequency of such incidents at beer outlets.

“On 1st December 2025, at around 0335 hours, Taurai Hungwe (29) was allegedly stabbed once on the chest with an okapi knife by a suspect only identified as Prosper at a nightclub in Beitbridge following an altercation over an undisclosed issue.

“The victim was rushed to Beitbridge District Hospital, where he succumbed to the injuries on 3rd December 2025. The suspect is still at large,” said ZRP.

Kudakwashe Mudyanevana, 27, was fatally struck on the head with an axe by a suspect known as Tshuks at a bottle store in Fort Rixon on December 4, 2025, and died while being transported to Filabusi Hospital.
The suspects are yet to be arrested.

The ZRP also cited two murder cases that occurred in Battlefields and Magwegwe North, further highlighting the growing concern over violence at beer outlets.

“On 5th December 2025, at around 2045 hours, Leonard Chidhoma (45) was attacked by two unidentified suspects while drinking beer at Chibhawabhawa, Battlefields.

“The suspects accused the victim of spreading falsehoods about them.

“The victim’s body was later found lying in his room on the 6th of December 2025.

“On the 7th December 2025, another murder case was recorded in Bulawayo, where Mongiwethu Godnows Dube (26) was killed after confronting Keith Dube (26) in an attempt to seek revenge for an earlier incident in which Keith Dube had splashed beer on the victim’s friend while they were playing snooker at a sports bar in Magwegwe North,” said ZRP.

What is worrying is that suspects in these heinous crimes are still at large, prompting the police to appeal to the public to come forward with any information that can lead to their arrest.

The police are urging the public to prioritize peaceful resolution of disputes, avoiding violence, and reporting any issues to the authorities instead of taking the law into their own hands.

The ZRP is bracing itself for a potentially violent festive season, as the number of beer drinkers is expected to surge, increasing the risk of conflicts and violent incidents.
