Well-wishers across the country and in the diaspora have contributed over $30,000 to 25-year-old University of Zimbabwe graduate Ruth Hwara for her kidney transplant.

After completing her studies in 2022, Ruth Hwara, who studied Business Management at UZ, was diagnosed with Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD).

In one interview, she said, “Doctors informed me that my condition was caused by High Blood Pressure, rendering all my kidneys non-functional.”

Since June 2023, the fundraising organizing team had raised US$4,500, but in a single day, the social media family surpassed the $30,000 mark.

Her fundraising organizing team stated that her life now depends on enduring 5-hour dialysis sessions twice a week.

Dr. Madzudzo, her specialist, made it clear that a kidney transplant is her only chance to survive.

Hwara struggles to stick to the diet provided by her doctors due to a lack of funds.

In addition, she undergoes taping sessions to drain fluids from her stomach, costing US$30 per session.

Furthermore, Hwara said, “The continued use of some dialysis machines has blurred my vision, swollen my stomach, and made it difficult to stick to the diet due to lack of money.”

Nigel Makomo, a member of her fundraising organizing team, said she is in pain.

Now that the funds have been raised, we pray for her speedy recovery and the success of the kidney transplant.
