Brigadier Gen (Rtd) Ngarava’s burial set for tomorrow

The late national hero Brigadier General (Rtd) Mathias Tizirai Ngarava will be buried at the National Heroes Acre tomorrow, 2 January 2026.

The Acting President, General (Rtd) Cde Dr C. G. N. Chiwenga will preside over this burial.

The Ministry of Home Affairs and Cultural Heritage yesterday advised the nation, in a press statement, of the burial arrangements for the late National Hero, Brigadier General (Rtd) Mathias Tizirai Ngarava, who passed away on 25 December 2025.

Yesterday, 31 December 2025, the remains of the late Brigadier General (Rtd) Mathias Tizirai Ngarava were taken from Charles Gumbo Barracks to Chinhoyi, where they lay in state, passing through his Marlbereign home and Plot 3, Ndudza Farm in Banket for brief ceremonies.

The press statement further highlighted that today, the body will be airlifted to Chivi for final respects and later returned to Harare, where it will lie in state ahead of the burial scheduled for tomorrow.

“Tomorrow, the 1st of January 2026, the late Brigadier General(Rtd) Mathias Tizirai Ngarava will be airlifted to Mhokore Village under Chief Gororo in Chivi District. The entire Masvingo leaderdhip and the Chivi community will be able to pay their last respects to this illustrious Son of the Soil.

“From 1500hrs, the late national hero will be airlifted back to Charles Gumbo Barracks where he will lie in state ahead of burial on Friday at the National Shrine,” said the statement

Burial proceedings will commence on Friday, the 2nd of January 2026 and mourners are expected to be seated by 0700hrs.

Members of the public are invited to come in their numbers and give a befitting farewell to this Great Son of the Soil.

The late national hero Brigadier General (Rtd) Mathias Tizirai Ngarava has been described as a selfless, dedicated, and exemplary cadre who sacrificed his life to defend the country.

The late Brigadier General (Rtd) Ngarava was a well-decorated cadre who rose through the ranks with distinction until his retirement.
