“I am at Sadza growth point. I saw your posting. Please confirm if it’s true that we will have our houses demolished?,” said a caller who did not want to be named.
Another from Nharira named traditional and political leaders saying he has nowhere to go.
“What do they want us to do?. Where should we go? . We have been staying here for a long time with the full blessing of our traditional and political leaders ,I think they will have to kill us, ” he said .
Meanwhile Chikomba Rural District Council Chairman Cde Israel Dhikinya had no much to say .
“We are simply saying Hokoyo ,we are coming and we are demolishing without fear or favor” said Cllr Dhikinya
Chikomba RDC District planner Mr Norman Shadreck Maoneni said those in the affected areas have three options.
“Yes, the prohibition order is authentic, and the illegal land occupation is prevalent in Sadza areas of Dabwa and Dongo villages where some Village heads illegally gave people land, and as council we are saying those affected have three options ,to pull down their structures own their own and vacate, to appeal using receipts for proof of payments and approvals from council and lastly to apply for regularisation and this must be done in the thirty day period up to 25 September 2030 .
“As from 25, we as council will apply to the magistrate courts for permission to carry out demolitions,” he said .
Mr Maoneni said the position by Chikomba RDC was inclined with the directive by HE Cde Dr Emmerson Mnangagwa to councils to ensure that there are orderly settlements enabling the achievement of NDS2 goals and the national vision of an Upper-Middle Income Economy by the year 2030.
Chikomba Rural District Council is on a major drive to improve its service delivery standards and has set the target of being the best RDC in Zimbabwe and the dream is not far from being realized if one looks at the rapid transformation that is taking place in and around Chivhu.
