The Minister of Transport and Infrastructural Development, Hon. Felix Tapiwa Mhona (MP), will this morning tour the Mabvuku Interchange project to assess progress on the game-changing development.
In a notice to TheVhayeya.com, Ms. Judith Nhau, the Ministry’s Communications Manager, said, “There will be a progress tour of the Mabvuku Interchange Construction Project by Hon. Minister Mhona, and you, _Vhayeya.com_, are invited.”
The tour will focus on works including the construction of Delport Road and the Masasa Traffic Separator at Jaggers Masasa.
According to Eng. Virginia Mawere, Delport Road is expected to decongest the CBD by diverting traffic headed to the south of Harare.
“Delport Road will ensure that traffic to places like Seke, Masvingo, and RGM International Airport, and other destinations in the south of Harare, avoids the city centre. So there will be no need for a person going to Masvingo to pass through the city centre. Instead, they will go via Delport to St. Mary’s, then Chitungwiza Road and Trabablas, and off they go,” she said.
Today’s tour will also assess progress against project deadlines.
Initial timelines indicated that Phase 1,the construction of the main Mabvuku Interchange would be completed by September this year.
The Mabvuku Interchange is part of a broader government programme to upgrade road infrastructure in and around the country.
In Harare alone, over 10 mni-interchanges are at various stages of development.
