The City of Harare has issued a stern warning to heavy-duty truck owners and drivers, stating that it is illegal to park such vehicles in residential areas.
The warning comes amid a growing concern over the increasing number of heavy trucks being parked in neighbourhoods, causing serious disruptions to traffic and essential service delivery.
In a statement seen by Vhayeya.com, city authorities expressed concern over the trend, which they say is fast becoming a public nuisance.
“The City of Harare would like to advise heavy duty truck owners and drivers that it is illegal to park their trucks in residential areas.
“We have noted with concern that there is a huge increase in heavy-duty trucks being parked in residential areas, thereby blocking traffic,” said the city of Harare.
The statement highlighted that in some areas, even service delivery vehicles are being blocked.
According to the City of Harare, the situation has escalated to a point where refuse collection trucks, ambulances, and other emergency services are struggling to access certain neighbourhoods due to improperly parked heavy vehicles.
To address the issue, the city has begun issuing tickets to truck owners and drivers found in violation of the by-laws governing parking in residential zones.
Authorities say the enforcement campaign will continue until full compliance is achieved.
“If the trucks are not removed even after paying the fines, they will be impounded,” said the statement.
