The Minister of Transport and Infrastructural Development Honourable Felix Tapiwa Mhona officially opened the completed Harare Drive missing link and Mukuvisi River Bridge under the Mbudzi Interchange project yesterday.
The Harare Drive Missing Link, which is part of the Mbudzi Interchange project, will connect Masotcha Ndlovu Way to the Chinzou Roundabout.
This 800-meter road section is 10 meters wide before the bridge, and 9 meters wide on top of the bridge.
In his remarks Hon Minister Mhona said the work ethic of the 2nd Republic is remarkable as it continues to champion Infrastructural Development in the country.
Honorable Minister Felix Mhona announced that, in addition to completing the Mbudzi Interchange, the Cabinet has approved two key infrastructure projects, the rehabilitation of Nyamapanda Road and the expansion of the Forbes Border Post.
“We have secured Cabinet approval for the rehabilitation of the Nyamapanda Highway, as well as the expansion of the Forbes Border Post.”
“We plan to synchronize the construction of a 31.5km bypass, which will alleviate congestion and reduce the burden on the existing Christmas Pass structure. This bypass will lead directly to the Forbes Border Post, and its construction will be undertaken concurrently with the border post expansion,” he explained.
Speaking at the same event, Eng Emmanuel Dube from DNMZ said, “The Harare Drive missing link is going to filter out traffic coming into the CBD and it will provide a traveler a choice to go through the Interchange or to go outside the Interchange and it shortens travel time”.
Eng Maguta from Fossil Contractors added, “13 bridges are 100% complete, we are now finishing the other 2 which are at deck level bringing out a 96% complete on the structure, for road works 72%, overall completion of the Mbudzi is 85% and definately we are going to finish this project this year”, he said.
Construction of the interchange is being carried out by Tefoma Construction, a consortium formed by Tensor Systems, Fossil Contracting and Masimba Construction.
