Sadza Chikomba- Chikomba residents have called for the government to take measures and help them against unscrupulous businesses at Sadza growth point who are charging an atrocious rate of ZIG 20 to a US$1.
Callers have been flooding vhayeya.com with calls asking for the MPs of Chikomba East Hon Min Felix Tapiwa and Hon Tino Machakaire of Wedza South Constituency to help them against an evil onslaught by some businesses at the growth point.
“I am a civil servant I get part of my salary in ZiG and we are so glad that the government has managed to stabilise this currency across the country.
“It is sad that here at Sadza the authorities have let us down. When in Harare or in Chivhu, we enjoy our ZiG but as soon as we set foot in Sadza everything changes.
“Our currency becomes valueless, imagine at one dollar to 20Zig how can that work? They are killing us here and we appeal to the two MPs, Hon Mhona and Hon Machakaire to look into this and bring the police to arrest these shop owners who are fighting the government policies,” said a teacher who declined to be named
Another villager, who also chose to remain anonymous said, “As of me am speacheless, is Sadza part of Zimbabwe?, how come they buy products in Gain and NRichards at a 1 as to 13.9 rate but here it’s different?
“At least if they say 15 we can understand as cost of carrying the goods from Harare but not 20 that’s evil. Please let this reach our listening MPs and our President Cde Dr E.D Mnangagwa,” said the villager.
The government in April introduced the gold backed local currency as a measure to stabilise the currency.
The ZiG has maintained a steady rate to the USD ever since bringing stability in the financial service sector and spur economic growth with the IMF also taking note and giving the intervention a thumps up.
The Government has intensified its crackdown on money changers, arresting those who manipulate the exchange rates.
