The Minister of Transport and Infrastructural Development, Honourable Felix Tapiwa Mhona, has officially opened a refurbished 2.8km section of Sam Nujoma Road, stretching from Cork Road to Harare Drive, for traffic use.

The road constructed according to SADC standards is arrayed with beautiful landscaping, street lighting and well paved sidewalks for pedestrians.

Speaking at the event Hon Mhona said, “We are here today witnessing wonderful progress interms of road rehabilitation that is being championed by His Excellency Cde Dr E.D Mnangagwa”, adding that Nemakonde and 2nd street extension which was narrow has been widened and dualized and it is part of the Harare Chirundu highway.

He went on and expressed his gratitude to the 2nd Republic for championing Infrastructural development across the country.

“I’m happy to say that under the 2nd Republic we have seen that we have accelerated infrastructural developments which actually highlights that in terms of doing business this is the mantra His Excellency President Mnangagwa is running with ‘Zimbabwe is open for business,” he said.

Hon Mhona highlighted that they are going to rehabilitate the detour roads which were used during the massive road rehabilitation programme in the country.

Hon C. Tawengwa the Minister for Provincial Affairs and Devolution for Harare Metropolitan thanked Government for its work in the Province.

“On behalf of the Harare Metropolitan Province, it is with great pride that I continue to applaud the commitment and vigilance being exhibited by the 2nd Republic under the leadership of His Excellency President Mnangagwa,” he said.

Engineer Maguta from Fossil Contractors said they have put in place service ducts to avoid service providers digging up the road.

“We did the relocation of the existing services which were there, that is water, sewer and electricals and we have put allowance in all our junctions with service ducts that any future development or service providers who want to cross the road either ways, we have put in place 6 ducts for all to use,” he said.

The Ministry of Transport and Infrastructural Development is involved in various infrastructural development projects across the country to improve accessibility and connectivity to the public.

The Minister of Transport and Infrastructural Development, Honourable Felix Tapiwa Mhona, has announced that the ongoing road infrastructure development will encompass the entire country and will continue even after the conclusion of the SADC Summit.
