The Zimbabwe Revenue Authority (ZIMRA) has intercepted a massive 15-tonne consignment of smuggled meat and poultry products at the Mutirikwi River area in Triangle, as authorities ramp up efforts to choke off illegal trade routes in the Lowveld.

The seizure, made during a routine enforcement operation, has sparked serious health and security concerns regarding the quality of food products entering the local market.

The intercepted cargo was discovered aboard a truck with Zimbabwean registration plates (AGZ 3488).

Upon inspection, ZIMRA officials found the vehicle packed with an assortment of meat products valued at approximately ZWG 945,000.

According to the revenue authority, the cargo included 197 packages of 80kg chicken cuts and seven packages of 10kg sausages, as well as larger quantities of polony.

The driver and operators failed to produce any supporting customs documentation or health clearance certificates required for the importation of perishable goods.

“The interception occurred in the Mutirikwi River area of Triangle, known as an increasingly popular smuggling corridor,” ZIMRA stated.

Meanwhile, police arrested Danisa Ncube (37) on 16 February 2026 at the Kudzanayi Bus Terminus for unlawful possession of dagga.

The suspect had just received a parcel from a cross-border bus when officers approached and conducted a search, recovering cobs of dagga concealed in two bags.

Authorities say the incidents highlight continued enforcement actions targeting smuggling, illicit goods and other criminal activities threatening public health, safety and revenue collection.
