Highlanders Football Club has refused to be arm‑twisted by Wicknell Chivhayo in appointing a new head coach ahead of the 2026 season.
The club released a press statement yesterday outlining its position on the vacant post.
“Highlanders Football Club recognises the gesture by our benefactor Sir Wicknell Chivhayo in which he made a proposal to facilitate and take care of Mr Benjani Mwaruwari if he were to be engaged as the club’s head coach
“While the news is greatly appreciated and the club believes he acted with the best interests of the club at heart, the club would like to remind its stakeholders that there are processes and procedures that are in place that speak to the hiring of the Technical and playing staff,” said Highlanders.
Bosso’s reaction came after Sir Wicknell held a meeting with Benjani, offering him the role of the new Highlanders gaffer.
Highlanders have categorically stated that the team is in the process of identifying a potential candidate for the head‑coach position.
“The club is in the process of finalising a potential candidate to take over from Mr De Jongh in time for the coming season.
“This development will be shared with the Highlanders FC family once concluded,” announced Bosso.
Bosso thanked Mr Chivhayo for his support.
“We thank Sir Chivhayo for his consideration and continued support to the club.
“We look forward to greater support as the club turns
It remains to be seen whether Bosso can stand firm and resist Chivhayo’s demands, since, who pays the piper detects the tune.
Benjani Mwaruwari had a coaching stint at Ngezi Platimnum and was dismissed from the job mid-season.
In other related news, Scotland FC named Norman Mapeza as Head coach, Caps United appointed Takesure Chiragwi as head coach.
Unconfirmed reports also indicate Joel Luphala is heading to FC Platinum and Kelvin Kaindu to succeed him at Simba Bhora.
Highlanders finished 11th on the log with 39 points.
