Warriors assistant coach Takesure Chiragwi has apologized for his unsporting behavior, which saw him slap one of his own players.

Chiragwi struck forward McDonald Makuwe in a heated exchange on the touchline after Dynamos equalized in the 34th minute through an own goal by Brooklyn Katumba.

The referee awarded the goal and Ngezi Platinum protested resulting Chiragwi engaging into an altercation with his player.

The emotional afternoon saw Chiragwi receiving a red card.

Chiragwi issued a statement expressing his regret.

“First and foremost, I extend my deepest apologies to McDonald Makuwe, the player involved. I am deeply sorry for my behaviour towards you. Regardless of the circumstances or emotions of the moment, there is no justification for my actions, and I take full responsibility for the hurt and embarrassment they may have caused you,” said he said .

Chiragwi also apologised to his club, the Premier Soccer League and the Zimbabwe Football Association.

“I also wish to apologise to Ngezi Platinum Stars Football Club, the Premier Soccer League and its partners, as well as the Zimbabwe Football Association, where I have had the privilege of serving as Assistant Coach of the national team, the Warriors. My conduct fell far short of the standards expected of me, and I acknowledge the damage it has caused to the reputation of the game, my club, and our national institutions,” Chiragwi said .

Meanwhile he also announced that he had stepped down from the national team.

“In the spirit of transparency and respect for due process, I have stepped aside from my national team duties for the upcoming FIFA World Cup Qualifiers to allow all disciplinary procedures to take place without prejudice. I will cooperate fully with the investigations by the PSL and any other relevant authorities and accept whatever outcome or sanction deemed appropriate,” he said.

The incident became the talk of town and overshadowed the classical display by Caps United that got them inflicting a first time defeat to Simba Bhora at Wadzanai Stadium.

Caps United’s victory jolted them further out of danger to 9th position bringing relief to the green machine.

Meanwhile Dynamos eased out of the relegation zone to land at the 14th position following the controversial 1 all draw.

In another Premier Soccer League match played today, Highlanders and Herentials played a goalless draw.
