CID Chivhu nab highway robbers

Five suspects have been arrested for stealing US$193 900 cash and a cellphone from a vehicle which was travelling from Bulawayo to Harare.

The suspects are Richard Banda, Tawananyasha Nyengerai, Lionel Chipenzi, Harison Chiinge, Calos Muwani.

Chivhu Police CID carried out the investigations and also recovered US$100 442 cash.

In a statement National Police Spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the arrests.

”ZRP confirms the arrests of five suspects in connection to a case which occured on 4th August 2024 at the 136th KM peg ALong Harare -Masvingo road, Makumimavi area, Chivhu” he said.

According to the statement, Richard Banda one of the suspects, planned the robbery incident with his relatives and friends after getting Information from his employers on their travel arrangements.

During the incident other suspects posed as police officers and stopped the vehicle which Richard Banda was driving, they snatched a bag containing the money and cellphone before fleeing in their getaway car.
