The last few months have been filled with activity as the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructural Development has been working diligently to ensure that the contractors complete their work on time, Hon Mhona has said.

Speaking at the official opening of traffic to the public of the completed section of Nemakonde Way from junction Sam Nujoma to Harare Drive, Hon Mhona said the Ministry has managed to finish several Infrastructural projects in Harare.

“Together as a team, we have managed to accomplish a major milestone. As we speak, starting from the RGM International Airport (RGMIA), our VVIP Pavilion is now complete and ready to host our delegates. Additionally, we have finished the rehabilitation of Airport Road.

“We are witnessing the tremendous work that has been displayed by the 2nd Republic. Let me hasten to say that we thank Cde E.D. Mnangagwa for availing resources under very difficult circumstances. Although we are tapping into the fiscus, we have managed to accomplish what we have now,” he said.

He appreciated the work done by the Ministry of Transport and the contractors for adhering to a 24/7 work schedule, which has yielded impressive results.

Hon Mhona emphasized that Zimbabwe is our home, and although SADC may come and go, the country’s infrastructural developments will persist.

“SADC is coming but you will see that we will continue with the Road rehabilitation emergency program throughout the country,” he said.

Eng Maguta from Fossil Contractors said they have completed 12,5km from Julius Nyerere Central Post Office to Westgate Roundabout and the road is part of the Harare Chirundu Road highway.

“The completion of this section is a great achievement as this was the most difficult section because it is an urban area, a built up environment. We had challenges with traffic, pedestrians and underground services but with our great zeal and determination we managed to finish up this section on time,” he said.

Eng Maguta added that they are going to start to rehabilitate the detour roads to their original state.

Nemakonde, Sam Nujoma, Old Mazowe, and Bindura Roads have been successfully rehabilitated and are now open to traffic.

The Government, through the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructural Development, has embarked on a road rehabilitation initiative as part of the National Development Strategy 1 (NDS1).
