Everlyn (38) was convicted and sentenced to 38 months imprisonment for theft, the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ) has announced.
The National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ) made this announcement in a press release seen by Vhayeya.com earlier today.
“The Kadoma Magistrates’ court has convicted Everlyn Mkwanazi (38) for stealing US$29,896 from Delta Beverages, where she worked as a cashier.
“She was found guilty of theft and sentenced to 38 months imprisonment, 10 months suspended for five years, 12 months suspended if she pays restitution of US$29,860. 16 months suspended on condition she performs 560 hours of community service at Rutendo Primary School, Kwekwe,” said the NPAZ.
The National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ) did not specify when the restitution amount is due in its announcement regarding Everlyn Mkwanazi’s conviction.
The statement highlighted that Everlyn Mkwanazi attempted to destroy evidence by trying to burn it.
“On the 4th of May 2023, instead of handing over the previous day’s beverage sales for banking, Mkwanazi stole the cash, then attempted to burn part of the money in a desperate bid to cover her tracks. She was captured on cctv fleeing from the scene after starting the fire.
“A quick response by security saved US$12,500, but US$470, and ZWL$900 were partially burnt,” announced NPAZ.
In a related story, two Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) officers who assaulted Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC) officers at a roadblock have been fined, as announced by the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ).
“Two police officers stationed at ZRP Sakubva aged 39 and 42 appeared before the Mutare Magistrates’ court on charges of assaulting peace officers under Section 176 of the Criminal Law Code.
“Each offender was fined USD 500, with 4 months’ imprisonment suspended for 5 years,” said the statement.
In building the case, NPAZ said the pair attacked ZACC officers who were conducting an operation on alleged bribery at a roadblock near Mutare Teachers’ College on the 11th of December 2024.
“After arresting the police officer at a roadblock for soliciting a bribe, ZACC officers were assaulted by two other police officers when they returned to seize the roadblock declaration book, which was an exhibit to the case.
“The offenders violently resisted, pulling a ZACC officer from a vehicle and fleeing with the seized exhibit. This resulted in one ZACC officer having a swollen arm and torn shirt,” the NPAZ said.
