Police have arrested six people in separate incidents involving unlawful possession of unregistered medicines and dagga in Beitbridge and Chipinge, as law enforcement continues to clamp down on drug-related offences.
On February 8, 2026, police in Beitbridge acted on a tip-off and arrested Ozzie Sibindi (45) and Kilet Sibanda (33) for unlawful possession of unregistered medicines.
The two suspects were travelling in a foreign-registered Toyota Quantum when they were intercepted at the northbound bus search bay.
A search of the vehicle led to the recovery of large quantities of cough syrup believed to be contraband.
“Police recovered 82 boxes, each containing 50 by 100-millilitre bottles of Broncleer cough syrup, and 38 boxes of 48 by 100-millilitre bottles of Benylin cough syrup, all wrapped in black plastic.
“The medicines are unregistered and were being transported unlawfully,” Commissioner Nyathi said.
On the same day, ZRP Chisumbanje arrested Siluze Ncube (24) and Cliford Mufambi (40) for a similar offence.
Police recovered Broncleer cough syrup at the suspects’ homestead in Checheche Phase 5, Chipinge.
“The suspects were found in possession of unregistered medicines at their residence.
“Investigations are ongoing to establish the source and intended destination of the drugs,” Police said.
In a separate incident, police also confirmed the arrest of Takudzwa Chingozho (18) and Irvine Sibanda (22) for unlawful possession of dagga.
The two were passengers in a Kia vehicle that was stopped at a police checkpoint at the 80-kilometre peg along the Beitbridge–Masvingo Road.
“Upon searching the suspects, officers recovered a Monarch bag containing three cobs of dagga.
“The suspects were immediately arrested and charged,” Commissioner Nyathi said.
Police have warned the public against dealing in illegal drugs and unregistered medicines, stressing that offenders will face the full wrath of the law.
“We continue to urge members of the public to cooperate with the police and report criminal activities.
“Drug abuse and illegal medicines pose a serious threat to public health and safety,” the police said.
