The Minister of Primary and Secondary Education, Honourable Torerayi Moyo, has announced a new national initiative aimed at promoting and rewarding academic excellence across Zimbabwe’s education system.
In a statement, Minister Moyo said the programme will see the Ministry recognizing and awarding the top 10 best-performing schools in each province, based on their 2025 pass rates at Grade Seven, Ordinary Level, and Advanced Level.
“I am pleased to announce a new national initiative aimed at promoting and rewarding academic excellence across our education system. As part of this initiative, my Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education will recognize and award the top 10 best-performing schools in each province,” he said.
He said the initiative is meant to celebrate schools that have consistently demonstrated a strong commitment to academic achievement and the holistic development of learners.
“This recognition is a celebration of high-performing schools that have consistently demonstrated a strong commitment to academic achievement and the holistic development of learners in the provision of equitable, inclusive and quality education in line with Sustainable Development Goal 4,” said the Minister.
In addition to provincial awards, the Ministry will also identify and reward the top five best-performing schools in the 2025 Zimbabwe School Examinations Council (ZIMSEC) and Cambridge examinations.
The awards ceremony is scheduled to take place on 20 March 2026.
“We will also identify the top five best-performing schools in the 2025 ZIMSEC and Cambridge examinations and reward them accordingly on 20 March 2026.
“Such schools will serve as beacons of excellence and inspiration for others across the entire country, setting a benchmark for quality education and academic performance,” Minister Moyo said.
Minister Moyo also called on stakeholders to support the initiative through various forms of assistance aimed at motivating educators and school leaders.
“I extend a heartfelt invitation to all individuals, well-wishers, corporates and development partners who wish to support this noble initiative.
“We welcome sponsorships, awards, grants and any other forms of assistance in order to motivate our hard-working teachers and headmasters,” he said.
He said those willing to support the programme should contact the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education head office through official communication channels.
The initiative is part of government efforts to strengthen education standards, encourage healthy competition among schools, and improve learning outcomes nationwide.
