Masasa Secondary School in Chikomba East Constituency will host eight school zones on Friday, 20 February 2026, for the annual NASH athletics competition.
The event is designed to select athletes who will represent the district at the provincial championships on 6 March 2026.
The competition, coordinated this year by the Chikomba Athletics Board (CAB) under the leadership of chairperson Mr Arkim Dlodlo, brings together schools from across the constituency to compete in track and field disciplines, with organisers aiming to identify emerging talent and strengthen grassroots sport.
Defending champions Zone 5 from the Manyanga area are returning with high expectations of retaining their title.
Team manager Boyson Chigweremba expressed confidence ahead of the meet, declaring that the top sport is theirs, signalling their determination to remain champions.
Strong challenges are expected from Zone 2, Zone 1 and the host Zone 7, whose team manager Mr Gava said they are prepared to use home advantage to claim victory and upset the defending champions.
NASH Chikomba has encouraged businesses and community partners to support the event through sponsorship, donations and on-site marketing, describing the competition as a key platform for youth development and community engagement.
Chikomba District has produced notable sporting figures, including international boxing star Charles Manyuchi, Veteran Elijah Mutandiro, whose achievements continue to motivate aspiring athletes from the area.
Local athletics initiatives are also supported by Chikomba East Member of Parliament Hon Felix Tapiwa Mhona, who sponsors the annual Honourable Mhona Marathon, set to be held at Rutanhira Stadium on a date yet to be announced.
Officials say the Masasa meet is not only a contest for medals, but a critical step in building a pipeline of talent that will represent Chikomba at provincial and national levels.
