The Ministry of Transport concluded a three-day media tour of road construction and maintenance projects across the country in Plumtree today.
Hon Phuti Dingumuzi took a moment to applaud the government for spearheading the road construction project, acknowledging the positive impact it will have on the local community and the nation’s economy.
“As people of Bulilima, we are delighted that the Ministry of Transport has commenced construction of this road.
“This road is crucial as it will link with the Border Post. Motorists will travel faster, and the travelling distance will be significantly shortened. Upon completion, this project will boost local economic growth and development, and the smooth movement of traffic will lead to cheaper goods,” he said.
He added that the government is walking the talk in its mantra of leaving no place and no one behind, through initiatives like the road construction project, which is set to benefit the marginalized local community.
The Minister of Transport and Infrastructural Development, Hon Felix Tapiwa Mhona, echoed Hon Dingumuzi Phuti’s sentiments, reiterating that the Second Republic remains committed to its mantra of leaving no place and no one behind.
“The Second Republic under the leadership of H.E Cde, Dr Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa is on the drive of rehabilitating infrastructure across the country.
“Today we are here in Bulilima, in Matebeleland South where we are witnessing the construction of the Plumtree-Maitengwe Border Post road. It is a testament of the President’s mantra of leaving no place and no one behind,” said Hon Mhona.
He also took the opportunity to highlight that the “nyika inovakwa nevene vayo” mantra is being realized, as the road is being constructed by a local company, demonstrating the government’s commitment to empowering indigenous enterprises.
“We are happy as a Ministry and as Government that this particular project is being done by a local contractor, Enock Consteuction.
“Quality work is being done and i urge other Zimbabweans who are in the diaspora to come back home and participate in nation building,” he said.
The Minister of Transport was accompanied by the Chairman of the Parliamentary Committe on Transport Hon T. Karikoga, Minister of Indusrty and Commerce Hon M. Ndhlovu, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Transport Engineer J. P. Makumbe and other senior government officials.
Upon completion, the approximately 92km Plumtree-Maitengwe road will enhance trade and easy passage to the border.
