Six people were killed and six others injured after a commuter omnibus carrying 11 passengers veered off the Harare-Bulawayo Road and plunged into a deep concrete-lined gully filled with water on Wednesday night.

The fatal accident occurred at around 10pm on July 29, 2026, at the nine-kilometre peg along the Harare-Bulawayo Road at the Tynwald Railroad Flyover near the Harare Drive junction.

Confirming the accident in a statement, Zimbabwe Republic Police national spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi said, “The Zimbabwe Republic Police confirms a fatal road traffic accident which occurred on 29th July 2026 at around 2200 hours at the nine-kilometre peg along the Harare-Bulawayo Road at Tynwald Railroad Flyover near Harare Drive junction.”

Commissioner Nyathi said the commuter omnibus left the roadway before plunging into the water-filled gully.

“Six people were killed while six others were injured when a kombi with 11 passengers on board veered off the road and plunged into a deep concrete-lined gully which contained water,” he said.

The bodies of the deceased were taken to the Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals mortuary for post-mortem examinations, while the injured were admitted to the same hospital for treatment.

“Efforts to locate and notify the next of kin of all the victims are continuing,” Commissioner Nyathi said.

He said police were continuing with investigations into the cause of the crash.

“The Zimbabwe Republic Police extends its deepest condolences to the families of the victims and wishes the injured a speedy recovery. Further details will be released in due course as investigations continue,” Commissioner Nyathi said.
